Workshops are typically held on one day and encompass lectures and hands-on experience. Workshops are for the person who would like to gain additional knowledge and experience in the various aspects of photography + camera operation.
Retreats are are typically two- or three-day experiences where lectures, hands-on experience and extra-curricular activities are offered. Retreats are typically for the person who wants to gain extensive knowledge, coupled with interesting experiences to help them reach the next level in their photography.
1:1 Photography Coaching is offered separately on a private learn-at-your-own-pace setting, or can be added to the Workshop or Retreat experience.
Regardless of the experience you choose, Joanne will help guide you to choose courses of study relevant to your needs and goals.
COURSE LEVEL GUIDELINES:
Level 1 | enthusiast
:: recommended for photography enthusiasts wanting information on basic photographic theories and camera instruction ::
Level 2 | beginner
:: recommended for moms/parents wanting instruction on the basics of photography coupled with specific tips for successfully photographing their own children with their DSLR. although geared towards parents, ALL beginner to intermediate attendees are welcome ::
Level 3 | business
:: recommended for business owners and Realtors wanting guidance and instruction on specific topics relative to their business needs ::
Level 4 | advanced amateur
:: recommended for the "new-to-the-business" photographer who wants guidance and instruction meant to refine their photographic skills while considering necessary business preparation, planning + direction ::
Level 5 | professional
:: recommended for the seasoned professional photographer who is seeking to move their photography career + art to a level beyond their previous goals + their competition through introspective and creative expansion ::

Graduating with honors from the Art Institutes International (aii) Pittsburgh with a Specialized Degree in Commercial Photography in 1995, Joanne Bartone has owned and operated Joanne Bartone Photography, a boutique wedding and portrait studio since that time. Joanne has in-depth experience in all aspects of business development and operations, including graphic design, branding, marketing and sales, and extensive experience in image management / production / enhancement, creative photographic technique and fine art print making.
Having had her work showcased locally and in international publications such as Brides Magazine, Joanne has received recognition and multiple international awards for both her wedding and fine art photography. Joanne believes in paying her success forward and has educated, mentored and assisted other photographers, both locally and nationally, in establishing their own careers.
Responsible for sole coverage of high-end celebrity events at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort galas, Joanne's celebrity photography has included famous artists such as Tony Bennett, Harry Connick Jr., Gloria Estefan, Robin Williams, George Lopez, Earth, Wind + Fire and Maya Angelou. Wedding clientele includes distinguished Pittsburgh notables such as the Rooney family, and corporate clientele include core Pittsburgh organizations, such as the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Heinz History Center.
A member of the Pittsburgh chapter of the International Special Events Society (ISES), the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Women in Photography International (WIPI) and the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP), Joanne proudly donates her time/talent to multiple non-profit organizations in the Pittsburgh community.
