...everything old is...well, old...

Time changes everything, unless, if we are lucky, time actually stands still. How many times do we breeze by what once was shiny and new because it has been there…for…forever…until it is gone without even a noticeable glance. When it’s gone, we are left with our vague memories of what stood in that place. How many times have you said, “Do you remember…,” or “Wasn’t that…”…

For over twenty years I have had this project in my mind and I finally started it! The images in this gallery are from a by-gone era when our country was in its hey-days of recreating itself as a destination for travelers to enjoy. Enter Niagara Falls, USA, the “Honeymoon Capital of the World,” or so it had been dubbed. But in the 60s, as all those fabulous motels for honeymooning had been bustling in the previous decade of the 50s, Niagara Falls, USA started its decline as both the honeymoon capital of the world, and as the vibrant city it once was. Motels took a back seat as a destination for travelers and gave way to the shiny new hotels we enjoy today. Here’s a link to an interesting article on a bit of the history of Niagara Falls, USA as the honeymoon capital of the US.

I hope my images transport you back to a time that once was, and believe it or not, still is today, just not in that new, shiny way it once was. Enjoy these images and their juxtaposition of old and new! I’ll be adding more images to this series in the very near future, as I’ve decided to not limit it to Niagara Falls, but instead incorporate nostalgia wherever it happens to find me…which is represented by the last three images in the gallery. ENJOY!
